Surprise! Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse: Teito Moyu (also known as The Imperial Capital Burns) is out on Steam! During aNCHOR’s October 21st livestream, staff members previously announced that the game would release on Steam sometime in November. After a period of relative silence, the game’s Steam page went live a little over 24 hours prior. Lo and behold, the game is suddenly out now! It is on sale for a retail price of $24.99 and a 10% launch discount for this week.
Teito Moyu is a prequel to Total Eclipse and serves as Takamura Yui’s backstory, chronicling her early days as a surface pilot cadet. The game’s story originates from the anime-original first two episodes of the Total Eclipse anime. They soon afterwards adapted its story into a light novel and later on, visual novel. The light novel remains untranslated and aNCHOR staff have not given any word on a potential English release.
Praised for its significant lore contributions, heart-wrenching story, and stellar production values, Teito Moyu has been one of the most-requested English Muv-Luv releases. Now, the main officially untranslated Muv-Luv games are Schwarzesmarken, Kimi ga Nozomu Muv-Luv, Haruko Maniax, Haiburu!, Ayu Mayu Alternative, War Ensemble and Last Divers. Last Divers, in particular, plays a crucial role for the narrative of of Muv-Luv Unlimited: The Day After. It does, however, have a Youtube playthrough fan translation. Other side stories like Kimi ga Nozomu Muv-Luv and Haruko Maniax meanwhile have full-fledged fan translation patches.
Will the next English Muv-Luv release be Schwarzesmarken? Or perhaps a smaller spin-off? Only time will tell.
The Muv-Luv series is a highly acclaimed romance and military sci-fi visual novel franchise developed by âge and aNCHOR. Its original trilogy consists of Muv-Luv Extra, Muv-Luv Unlimited, and Muv-Luv Alternative. The trilogy is infamous for starting off as a typical romance story before turning into an alternate timeline coming-of-age alien invasion war epic.
Following the success of the original trilogy, they later expanded upon the franchise with various side stories in different forms of media. Teito Moyu and Total Eclipse are two such side stories.
