Muv-Luv Switch Ports & Teito Moyu Steam Release Announced

As was announced via aNCHOR’s October 21st web livestream event, both Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative will receive Nintendo Switch ports releasing in Spring 2024. They will run on the AGES Mk. II engine. The upcoming Switch releases are the first new Muv-Luv console ports since 2016, with the PlayStation Vita release. As of this time, aNCHOR staff have yet to confirm multilingual support for the Switch ports.

In addition, Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse: Teito Moyu (otherwise known as The Imperial Capital Burns) will release on Steam this November. Teito Moyu is a prelude to Total Eclipse, serving as a 10-hour long backstory for heroine Takamura Yui. The story of Teito Moyu originated from the first two episodes of the Total Eclipse anime. It was expanded upon when adapted into light novel and later, visual novel form. With the Steam release of Teito Moyu, the entire visual novel-exclusive story of Total Eclipse will be available in English. The Total Eclipse light novels still remain on hiatus.

In the same livestream event, aNCHOR also provided updates for various of their other projects. They dedicated the first part of their stream to their mobile social game, Muv-Luv Dimensions. aNCHOR staff unveiled new characters, character designs, as well as story updates for the game.

They then went on to discuss progress on Muv-Luv Regenerative, their serialized magazine on series development and lore. Yoshimune Kouki confirmed that he has finished work on Volume 3 and that aNCHOR will announce its release date in the near future. This volume will allegedly disclose information concerning Muv-Luv Resonative, the upcoming sequel to Muv-Luv Unlimited: The Day After. Volumes 1 and 2 of which are available in both Japanese and English as DLCs to Muv-Luv Alternative on Steam.

Afterwards, they discussed updates to the Kimi ga Nozomu Eien crowdfunding campaign, which we previously covered a few days ago. Campaign staff are delaying the crowdfunding’s launch from October 21st to October 26th due to last-minute logistical changes. In particular, they rewrote parts of the campaign description and updated their rewards tiers. In response to fan demand, the campaign has added a digital-only tier for 4400 JPY (~$29), whereby backers get a digital copy of the game on Steam.

Finally, they discussed their plans for the franchise in 2024. Series producer Tororo briefly provided an update on the status of Project Mikhail, their mecha combat action game in early access. They are working on rebalancing the game’s “Frontier Mode” but can otherwise provide no updates at this time. Over the past year, it has seen minimal support and updates.

The Muv-Luv series is a highly acclaimed romance and military sci-fi visual novel franchise made by âge and aNCHOR. The original trilogy consists of Muv-Luv Extra, Muv-Luv Unlimited, and Muv-Luv Alternative. The trilogy starts off as a typical romance story before turning into an alternate timeline coming-of-age alien invasion war epic.

Following the success of the original trilogy, they later expanded upon the franchise with various side stories. The series’ best known side stories are Muv-Luv Unlimited: The Day After, Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse, and Schwarzesmarken. Total Eclipse and Schwarzesmarken both received anime adaptations — the former in 2012 and the latter in 2016. Muv-Luv Alternative also later received an anime adaptation in 2021 despite not covering the prior two parts of the trilogy. To date, the entire franchise has sold over 800,000 copies worldwide.
