Ohello, friends! Time for another VNTS as I’m currently writing this with freezing hands and unsure whether I want to turn on my heater or not. Not sure how’s the weather over in Sweden where my co-conspirator Zakamutt lives, but if it’s as rainy as it is here then he’s probably doing great staying scooped up in his home.
Glancing over the VNTS, we can spot 5 releases this week and some smaller developments. We actually estimated the November to be rather dry, but waking up to 5-6 new shadow drops listed on VNDB isn’t too rare an occurrence. Guess there’s no brakes on this VNTS train.

「Hi everyone. I’m making the same somewhat-that-curry thing I made a few VNTS posts ago today, so it’s a bitch that we have so many things to talk about. Truly I hate my life. The curry thing is great though.
The Sakuuta translation was originally thought to maybe be a strange troll, but here we have a guy taking responsibility, so who knows? I must say, the Indonesian and English translations look weirdly similar… but the non-schizo answer is that one probably copied the handy template present in the other. So how schizo are you feeling today? Good question…
Hey look, the shitty gutenberg editor is useful for once letting me easily do columns like this. Hata must be so envious of my abilities, I think he saw someone do this in one of our articles once and was so confounded he almost expired. (Hata: I actually am proud.)
Anyway, onto Higurashi Hou. In the confusing cosmology of Higurashi console releases, co-authorship, and complementarity, it has a fairly traditional approach. Except what really released this week is Hou+, four extra extra stories MG hadn’t quite gotten to yet, and VNTS has typo’d or something and made it a question mark for several weeks now. Fuck. The included chapters are Higurashi Outbreak, Higurashi Outbreak ~Kamikashimashi-hen~, Hinamizawa Bus Stop, and Mehagashi-hen (Hou+ Additional Scenario), whatever that means. It probably means something to someone. God there is a lot. Actually if you’re interested in writing an article clarifying all of the damned parts of this thing, do hit me or Hata up on the discord or mail or whatever, we’d love to have you.
After many, many years of slow-rolling, Sona-Nyl is slated for 7 December release. This is a well-regarded part of the Steampunk series, and for once the translator is likely up to the challenge of Sakurai’s unique prose: Koestl. You might know Koestl from his Grisaia translations, though most relevant in this case would be his work on Gahkthun, also of the Steampunk series. For me, it’s hard to think of a better translator in the VN scene. Did you know it’s pronounced like “coastal”? I swear I’m not a fanboy. But with my fingers crossed, of course.
Shuuen no Virche -ErroR:salvation- is an otome title I’ve heard has a strong plot and action focus. It’s also known to be somewhat difficult to read, so one must worry about what job Aksys will do on it, but I’m still unusually interested. I liked Sanzen Sekai Yuugi, after all… though that does have a little ero to sweeten the deal.
Teito Moyu, or “The Imperial Capital Burns” as the Age boys have reasonably translated it to, is yet more Muv Luv Alternative bonus content. The salty Age VN enjoyers I have seen say it’s priced way too high at $25 for like 5 hours. You know, it does sound way too high. Much like our power bills this time of year. At least I don’t have to pay them yet…
The ONE. remake trial is out on the Switch, and the early release was… wonky in a few places. After initial reports that there might be MTL going on, it seems like it is not but that there has been a comical mishap causing a nametag for the character “Minami” to be translated literally as “south” for no discernible reason. There was also a translation error pointed out for one of the lines, as well as a weird translation for an in-universe arc phrase that didn’t even match Shiravune’s official trailer, so god knows. Certainly one error doesn’t say that much about a translation; most everyone has a brainfart once in a while. Maybe they’ll fix all the weirdness before full release.
Amagure is slated for 8 December. Amazing Grace. Amagure. What a four-moji meme.
Hira Hira Hihiru may possibly be the first Setoguchi (Kira Kira, Swan Song, Musicus) VN with a decent translation, if staff opinion is anything to go by. Setoguchi really never was the hardest writer to translate: all you need to be is actually good at constructing fluid descriptive prose. So as you can expect, it’s taken a while to find someone that’s up to it. I pray for success here.
Tsukihime Remake comes out 30 June. The non-remake Tsukihime is already out, and the vibes are said to be different by some — the OG being more raw, though note that the remake hasn’t gotten to the truly raw routes of the original. There’s even a web version now, which I will link to as the doujin Japanese version is long out of print as far as I know, unlikely to help anyone actually involved in its creation. If you for some reason want the non-web version in Japanese, I may or may not be able to help if you ask in a more comfortable place.
Sympathy Kiss is a seemingly fairly generic otomege I’ve never heard of, coming over by Iffy’s graces. It’s funny to see the two “eh, mid” reviews at 5.5 and 6 next to the two 8-point reviews on vndb. Maybe those can help you decide if it’s for you — it looks to be bad in the story department but maybe have nice romance. Well, one of the 8-point reviewers does have an average score of 8.01 over 35 votes. It’s nice that they enjoy what they’re reading so much!
Of the Red, the Light, and the Ayakashi Tsuzuri may be better known as Akaya Akashiya Ayakashino to you. This is a weird title, with sorta-BL trappings but a No Romance Plot containing a multi-ple route mystery according to vndb tags. There is a fan translation of this already, so who knows how the official will measure up.
What is Shinjuku Soumei? It’s a new doujinge featuring Kataoka Tomo of Narcissu fame as its writer. It also seems to be a jp-en simul-release by a new company, so uhh… I wish you luck.
What is Knight Case Files? Well, it looks basically like Shinjuku Soumei except the writer is a nobody. Jp-en simul release, no porn. Oh, and they have a Steam page up and the description does not me give high hopes for the translation quality.
I liked the curry-stew-thing, by the way. My totally amazing technique is the fry the meat quick for color, take it out, fry the veggies for a bit, go in with garlic and ginger at the end, and finally fry the curry paste with the rest of the aromartics. Then I pour in coconut milk, wine, fish sauce, and break in a stock cube to sorta-mimic chicken stock and let it boil for a while, taking off the lid eventually to mimic the reduction you might otherwise do with the coconut milk. But I don’t add more coconut milk later. Fuck soupy curry. All my homies hate soupy curry. Even my Indian buddy doesn’t like making it soupy! And the Thai nation are slaves to a king anyway ducks out」

Wow, this is a scam! It hasn’t been like 2-3 hours since I died on the hill of the debate that Japanese Visual Novels =/= JVN (according to our totally messed up website categorization). It took a deep breath and some kebap from Kebab Hütte, but now the categories all have new names and have been cleaned up. Akatsuki no Goei ~Tsuminukaki Shuumatsuron~ is still progressing forward. I did say last VNTS that I’m checking that server less and less, but I still do check it in hope for some new update on Kusarihime ~Euthanasia~. Bee is back translating and we’re getting closer to 65% translated.
Oh, wow! With Honoo no Haramase Oppai Nyuu Doukyuusei ~Oppai mo Haramase! New Class Zen’in Harama-sensation!~ there’s a new oppaige on the horizon and it’s… one that we already reported about in an earlier VNTS! I can’t be arsed to look it up now, but I’m very certain we covered this Tamagolemon project already. I actually got my hope up that Frontwing picked up another Honoo no Haramase Oppai game after Gakuen and Succubus now, but this may happen in the future—Let me actually tell you guys an interesting story: There is this cool translation server, Honyaks, where a lot of high-level localizers gather to discuss work-related things and there I stumbled across the translator behind the Frontwing Honoo no Haramase Oppai games. It’s a guy named Whimsee who actually does a lot of interesting preservation for the anime scene. If you have the time and the Japanese skills, check out both his YakuAru and his old localization blog! Maybe even contribute!
Sakura no Uta is apparently at 16% of Chapter 1. Did you know that the names of the chapters of the game are in German? I always love to discover German in my favourite eroge. And in this game it is actually spelt correctly, how would’ve believed that! Anyways, there’s something that worries me about this project and this is that Love had tweeted that he’s running into trouble with character limits and text box restrictions and that he might translate something else if this goes on. Someone get this young chap a localization engineer, on god! (Apparently, this is about another project, god bless!)
Tsuma Netori is at 90% translated. Rattanman is such a consistent rat. Looking forward to report about this release possibly before December or during it?

Higurashi is one of those big series that I actually got decently far into. I believe I read all the Question Arcs now and I’m a bit struggle to start the Answer Arcs, because I frankly don’t seek answers unless the curious cat in me prevails. However, there’s the release of Higurashi When They Cry Hou+ which contains the infamous Hinamizawa Bus Stop story and some other content I really didn’t look into too far. Funnily enough, right after this dropped I got a DM from NepsKnight from Operationrainfall asking me if we could give him an article how the fuck to get into the Higurashi series. We might comply with that request if it helps people. There’s already a fairly detailed overview on the Higuwiki tho.
Next, there’s the big boy. After Higurashi’s release, MangaGamer finally announced what everyone was waiting for. The localization of Sona-Nyl of the Violet Shadows -What a Beautiful Memories- will finally release. it has been more than half a decade since this project was picked up and now it’s finally going out on the 7th of December 2023. The game was translated by the famous Koestl, so Zaka will approve it like the second coming of Christ. So do I.
On JASTs side, there’s now a listing for the VenusBlood Hollow Fandiscs. Cool, VenusBlood Fans will be happy that it happens so damn soon. Ninetail always delivers.
Sekai Project has both Animal Trail Girlish Square 2 in Schedu… oh what is that? They announced the release on the 18th of November? My god, what’s it with these crazy shadowdrops lately? Whatever, this feels like the moe-est moege I’ve seen in a while and my Moefriends on Discord will love it. Is this game any good in the comedy department?
Either they release it instantly like Teito Moyu that came out literally TODAY or with super short notice of like 3 to 4 days.
Aksys Games has finally released the biggest release of the year for them with Virche Evermore: Error Salvation, one of the prettiest and most serious otome games which I’ve seen in a while. Apparently this game is ripe with sad moments, depressing moments and oh yeah DEATH! I love the setting, I love the characters and it’s a game which I would immediately buy on Switch (Lite) if I wasn’t broke right now. Either way, stan Virche!
Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II will release on the 15th. Sirus will be happy. I’m a bit indifferent to this since I probably won’t play it. The first Death Mark frustrated me to no end with its frequent death ends and the scares got boring quick when you have to re-do things all the time. I rather read a banger horror-ge like Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, Neighbor or Paranormalsight.
Saikey has new stuff cooking. We really have to look for some NTR-chad to cover his releases more frequently. Or Cava. Yes, Cava can do it. Time to get out the whip, lads. Yokkyuu Fuman na Hatsujou Oba-san ni Yuuwaku Sareta Boku wa... I guess that’s nice.
Shiravune has a bunch of updates this week. Kuroinu 2 Redux has released and I’ve very tempted to play it after reading Cava’s review on the game. The world in this game seems much more interesting, despite it obviously being a hardcore nukige. The anime for it I remember as very erotic as well.
ONE. is finally close to release and there’s now a trial you can play. For some reason, the full game is listed on Switch with the abhorrent price of $69.99. There’s no way anyone in Hell would pay this much for that game, not even Tsukihime Remake (non-limited) will be this expensive. The trial is out now and people like Cola and Manpig have already reviewed it while for us Slankbot might take a look at it.
Succubus Sessions: Mami Mamiya’s Sweet Slice of Hell will release on the 1st of December. Man, these games are so close to another. Why is Shiravune squeezing so many titles into such a short time-span? It’s impressive that they’re able to keep up the quality somehow. Another 2-3 titles for the Curator Connect account, who’s gonna review all these?!
Ah, and Amazing Grace was also announced with a release date for the 8th… Need I say more? Kosakyun will be reviewing this one and this promises to be another absolute banger review. Fuyuakane Tom’s writing is superb so far.
Okay, next we have Hira Hira Hihiru from Aniplex.EXE which will release on the 17th of November. Sirus had already reviewed the demo for this game a while back, and he’s very excited to bite into the meat of the full game. We keep talking about Setoguchi quite a bit on the Discord lately. Yossa had finished Carnival a while ago, some people have been hyping up SWAN SONG and then there’s also Vesper who has a hard-on for BLACK SHEEP TOWN. Maybe I should finally read another Setoguchi work… Carnival was the only one I read of his.
Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon- will release on the 30th of June. As this was announced, they had also announced the Limited Edition of the game which will have the same content as the Japanese Limited Release a while back. However, the price tag of $80 is nothing to scoff at and it summoned up some underage kiddos on Twitter to complain about the price of visual novels since it’s “just reading”. Well, kids don’t appreciate a good book, I guess. He got cooked in the QRT’s and will probably not mouth off in the internet again. There’s a learning process.
Idea Factory announced a release date for Sympathy Kiss on the 27th of February 2024. Another otome game that’s probably too unexciting for me, but the girls will love it!
Dramatic Create announced Of the Red, the Light, and the Ayakashi Tsuzuri to release on the leap year day in next year February. Now that’s some interesting timing. We actually wanted to cover the announcement of this game a while back, but it took me a rando Fujoneko post to remember its existence. Well, that’s what it is. It’s no/low romance anyways. but it’s soooooo pretty!
The last two announcements I’m absolutely clueless about and I don’t have it in me to research them at 3am as I’m writing this VNTS… G-mode will release Shinjuku Soumei in February and HyoukanOpera will release Knight Case Files in January… What are those? I don’t knooooooooo…zzzzzzzz

I did mention that this week is an above average one, although it’s more because several exact release date announcements, especially both of Amazing Grace and Sona-Nyl. Oh yes I also notice Sakura no Uta project, although for now I’ll exercise a bit more caution, especially since it’s a very lengthy VN.
