—-The one who obtains the Holy Grail will have any wish come true.

The Holy Grail War. A great ritual that materializes the greatest holy artifact, the Holy Grail. There are two conditions to participate in this ritual: being a magus and being a “Master” chosen by the Holy Grail.

There are seven chosen Masters and seven classes of Servants, beings akin to superhumans with incredible fighting abilities. There is only one Holy Grail. If you wish for a miracle, prove that you are the strongest with your powers.

Emiya Shirou is a high school student who has learned rudimentary magic from his father and uses it to fix objects. He finds himself engaged in the Holy Grail war as he gets attacked by a Servant. As he gets cornered, he somehow summons his Servant and manages to stay alive long enough to compete against the other Masters.

What is Fate/Stay Night?

Fate/Stay Night 1

Fate/Stay Night is a 2004 visual novel from TYPE-MOON that serves as the first entry to the Fate series. It features alternative versions and reimagining of historical and mythological figures called “Heroic Spirits.” The visual novel would end up becoming an international success, spawning a multimedia franchise with incredible influence up to today.

Some notable visual novel titles from the franchise are its sequel Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, the PSP exclusive release Fate/EXTRA and its alternative version, the hack-and-slash spin-off Fate/EXTELLA, the mobile game Fate/Grand Order, and the recent release of Fate/Samurai Remnant. The visual novel has multiple anime adaptations from DEEN (2006) and Ufotable (2014) as well as a movie trilogy that covers the different routes.

Fate/Stay Night‘s English Translation

Fate/Stay Night REMASTERED marks the first time the visual novel will be officially available in English. The announcement is incredible news as more people can now read the visual novel through easily accessible storefronts like Steam. Previously, fans of the series could only read the the original via mirror moon‘s fan translation and various versions of the Realta Nua project by Jacktheinfinite101 and partners. There is an ongoing retranslation of the game by FBates as well.

Recently, TYPE-MOON has been actively introducing more of their titles into English. Through their partnership with Aniplex Inc., Mahoutsukai no Yoru and the Tsukihime remake now have English translations. As of writing, only the previous Tsukihime, its side story, and Fate/Hollow Ataraxia remain without official English translations, though fan equivalents are available. You can check these here: Tsukihime, Kagetsu Tohya, and Fate/Hollow Ataraxia.

Fate/Stay Night REMASTERED is set to release for the Nintendo Switch and Steam within the year. For more information about the upcoming release, follow the Fate/Stay Night REMASTERED Twitter account or refer to their official website.
