The Muv-Luv 20th Odyssey Box has finally released in Japan for the Nintendo Switch!
The collection includes physical copies of Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative as well as codes for digital copies of Muv-Luv Unlimited: The Day After. It also features several other bonuses like a 20th Anniversary commemorative medal; a royal guard insignia; an expanded version of the Muv-Luv Alternative Integral Works lore book; and a mug with a carabiner. This release marks the first time that Muv-Luv Unlimited: The Day After has released on consoles. Therefore, as of now, the biggest Muv-Luv title to have never seen a console release is Schwarzesmarken.
This package costs 32780 JPY (approx. $216,74) including taxes, which is certainly a steep price to pay. Fortunately, however, aNCHOR confirmed that the Muv-Luv games will receive standalone Nintendo Switch releases in the future.

Remastered versions of Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative will be individually available for download on the Nintendo Store. Meanwhile, a double pack containing the entire trilogy will be available both physically and digitally. Series producer Tororo has stated that they will announce their pricing and release dates at a later point.
On another note, aNCHOR has not announced a standalone release for Muv-Luv Unlimited: The Day After. They might leave its Switch port as a 20th Odyssey Box exclusive to incentivize people to buy it. Nevertheless, I’m sure that fans are hopeful to be able to play Muv-Luv games on Switch at a more affordable price.
Notably, the 20th Odyssey Box‘s Switch ports have English language support. However, aNCHOR has yet to provide any word on whether they plan on formally releasing the Switch ports in the West. In the past, PQube published the PlayStation Vita versions of the Muv-Luv trilogy. Perhaps aNCHOR will reach out to them to publish the Nintendo Switch ports too, or even self-publish the series digitally on the Switch themselves. As for now, we will have to wait and see.
What is Muv Luv about?
The Muv-Luv series is a highly acclaimed romance and military sci-fi visual novel franchise made by âge and aNCHOR. The original trilogy consists of Muv-Luv Extra, Muv-Luv Unlimited, and Muv-Luv Alternative. The trilogy infamously starts as a typical romance story before turning into an alternate timeline coming-of-age alien invasion war epic. In light of the series’ success, âge expanded upon the trilogy with various side stories in multiple mediums.
