Happy New Year, everyone! After a really terrible December in terms of Fuwa’s activity, we want to follow up with a much better January, maybe one that lines up with how active we have been during the other months. However, there’s a couple changes coming in 2024 which pertain to Fuwanovel’s output strategy. There might be a separate article coming for this down the line going into more detail.
As for this week, it feels quite massive. A lot of smaller and medium size updates happened right before the end of the year. The Co0 made a patch for A;C, Amagami had a final patch before the team disbands and some other things. There’s even another small boomerge that sneaked itself into the 2023 release schedule. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2024, everyone! If someone had told me last year in January that I would manage to get back on track by June, I wouldn’t have believed it. However, I can’t sum up 2023 as a successful year both in Fuwanovel matters as well as in worldly matters. A bunch of war, lots of bad information, american politics discourse on the rise again due to the upcoming election period, right wing parties rising up in Germany… it’s not a time without turbulence, that’s for sure.
But it is more important than ever to have enough exciting media at your disposal to dip out of the discourse and instead engage in some self-preservative escapism and by lord, this year has delivered on many fronts. While it’s not this post’s intent to create a comprehensive summary of the year, I can just deem it a great one where a lot of curses have been lifted. [Except Sharin of course…] Without further ado, let’s see what we got this week.
Akatsuki no Goei ~Tsumibukaki Shuumatsuron~ finally began its editing phase at around 80% translation completion. Sadly, it’s not as easy anymore to get the weekly updates as a normal fan, because Daybreak Translations closed off their server and only allows a closer friend group to use it. This was a recent change and I don’t know yet what to think about it. Zaka is among those close friends though, so it doesn’t mean that we don’t have access to the updates at all anymore. The daybreak translations blog will still have updates though. We’ll see what Bee thinks about me posting any discord info here, I haven’t asked him yet. -Zaka
Dating Sim legendary title Amagami has been released with its ultimate patch. Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean the game released as perfectly as possible, because this is basically a goodbye patch because the team behind it, Nishishi Translations, has now disbanded. There’s still some bugs left and some content from the EBIKORE version is still exclusive to the other version. For more information, check the patch here.
The Committee of Zero folks didn’t want to end the year without another contribution, so they still released their previously announced patch for Anonymous;Code. This patch actually adds translations for like 500 untranslated voiced lines, so it’s a big plus for players who’ve felt lost when playing the game because they didn’t speak Japanese. There’s also Karaoke lyrics, retranslations and the typical amount of QoL patches that Committee Patches come with. Here’s our post for it.
There also dropped a patch for the FBates retranslation of Fate/Stay Night. This includes both Fate and Unlimited Blade Works routes and 9 days of Heaven’s Feel. Zaka has a differing opinion about FBates’ stuff from the mainstream, but I did see people in the community recommend this over the Mirror Moon version. Takajun’s is just old… I don’t recommend any Fate translation if you might ever learn Japanese. Both are just shit sandwiches, if ones with different kinds of poop inside. -Zaka
Then there dropped another boomerge called Jan Jaka Jan which is apparently a Mahjongg game. Do you guys know how many fucking Mahjongg-based eroge there are? Hundreds! Easily. This is a matter that I don’t engage myself in. Maybe when I grow older I have the patience to learn board games like Mahjongg or Shōgi… Or maybe the Ryuu ga Gotoku games will make me do it. Either way, not even our boomerge expert JackDBS knew anything about this, so MAHJONGG SURPRISE?
And that’s already what the fan translators had to offer. On the official side, JAST ended the year — one of their weaker years, that’s for sure — with a release of Goblins on the March: Breed All Humans! on the 29th. I don’t actually think I want to play this, because I got so many more things to play. But for the folks who liked to watch the recent second season of Goblin Slayer, this might be an interesting release. It’s also a CHAOS-R game, so you can expect a lot of degeneracy. I worked as a QC on another one of theirs, Sweet Sacrifices, and it contained egg laying and tentacles, not the most tame of fetishes.
Shiravune announced a release date for Holy Slave Academy (Holy Maid Academy) on the 30th of January. I’m interested in Liquid games, so I might grab that one.
Criminal Border 2nd Offence is also announced for the first quarter of 2024. I might get some time to catch up to this… or maybe I’ll just play it in Japanese, we’ll see. Also I gotta see the character that caused some localization controversy and correc… evaluate her for myself.
Tensei Games released not one, not two but actually three Oshi Vtuber games before the year ended. It’s obviously three nukige without much substance, but I’m a Vtuber/ASMR/H-Audio addict, so I’ll look into this. Not worth reviewing though, I feel.
The other stuff I leave for Zaka to ignore. I don’t trust Artlink after HarmoneY and other games which were clearly MTL, so no will to investigate there. Professional Married Woman Cuckolder seems to stray away from the vanilla formula they ran earlier.
Okay, that’s all I want to talk about. Zaka can give his input on other things, or shill his new very acoustic Tadoku article on disearnestlydisearnest where he put his motivation curve into data. I will definitely crank out insane numbers of consumed media this year. 2024 is my year – but when did new year’s resolutions ever come true?

「You know what feels good? Hata’s (probably accidentally) stopped using the Japanese quote thing, so now it’s my own thing again. That’s how it used to be back in the day, when Decay was still writing. Man, that was a while ago. But now we have a new year, and absolutely nothing has changed, but I guess there were fireworks and some bubbly wine. Hata, being superstitious and not FIERCELY AND AUTISTICALLY AND MAYBE A LITTLE PERFORMATIVELY LOGICAL like me, seems to consider the new year significant though. At least the changes he wants to make are good. I only ask that his mother not change, as I love her as she is. Every night.
You know what feels mid? This week. The releases are pathetic unless you’re a coomer: fix patches, mildly better but still not good versions of patches, translations that just make you sad (the stiff fate re-tl partial), oh and I guess there’s a boomerge in there somewhere. I’d call my grandfather up to play it but he’s dead. In the progress department we have another december without angels, but I guess the tenshi no inai 12-gatsu project does now have 100% tl. The tsui no sora remake project has also hit 100%, so that’s nice. And I guess shiravussy announced criminal border’s second episode, which of course was only 90% likely before the formal announcement. The last part of the series, #4, is being made in Fapan right now. So in a year or two maybe those who desire complete works will be able to pick up a bundle edition. Who knows?

To be frank, I knew there are several nukige releases, although I figure that I should skip those anyway. That aside, there’s no much to write for the last week of 2023 other than Tsui no Sora Remake translation is finally completed (Still need months for the patch release) and Amagami patch marked as complete patch. At least there are some progress on Aoi Tori, even though it make Nekonyan’s situation hairy.
