Welcome to the Fuwanovel VNTS, where we shamelessly copy the work of one illustrious 4chan /jp/ member in collating translation progress and add minor dabs of value through corrections and additions. Entries with updates this week in bold.
We’re back in action! Were we ever gone? Well, there was a fat load of nothing last week on the Fuwanovel side due to a few complications, a general drop in motivation and me moving houses to celebrate holidays with the family. But we’re going to get back on track as we were during the last months.
This week looks like it’s featuring a lot of updates and new Nukige announcements by Tensei Games and artlink, two rather shoddy production studios. But there’s also something very awesome with Ever Maiden, the newest Lovelab announcement. And Shiravune’s not stopping with their releases whatsoever — two more titles are now out with ONE. Remake to follow next week.

I was bored, so I decided to record myself reading this one out loud. With extra tangents, of course. Feel free to skip, it’s pretty amateur w
「Despite appearances, I’m writing this after Hata. I wasn’t quite ready to pen something when he at last managed to write on Wednesday — I’d already done several vaguely productive things that day! — so this is written on Thursday morning. As you can see, he picked the box titles. I made mine fancy with a little HTML though, so I’m calling it a W. Real question though, does the Hatacarton have a plastic cap or do you need to rip it open to get to Hata’s juicy insides? We may never know.
First of all, Kusarihime is actually fully edited. The editor, Kobra, went full autism mode on the scripts for a bit and managed to get it from 50 to 100% in no time. Of course, this doesn’t mean a release is imminent. There are quality checks to be done.
Second, somehow a JOP discord alerted me to the 7 November release of a potential non-MTL rerelease of Issho ni Ikimashou Ikimashou Ikimashou, which in a somewhat difficult to translate fashion uses different kanji meaning walk, die, and live in that order for the “i” part of ikimashou. By the way, the “cumming” use of “iku” might actually properly use the “die” kanji. A little death indeed! I read about this like a year ago on the first site that came up on google, so don’t take me too seriously. The old localized title was Stand By Me and the translation was atrocious. The new translation seems to have brought with it a renaming to Together We Live. I don’t know how big the improvement has been, but it quite possibly cannot get worse than it was already. You can read the announcement on the developer’s blog — the Japanese in this doesn’t really say anything about the localization updates by the way, only the English. Weird.
That said, there’s a guy in the comments complaining about dev Water Phoenix switching from the Artemis engine to Unity, which I have to say amuses me. The dev says that using Artemis was difficult for someone with their limited technical abilities, so they picked Unity (well, they don’t even mention the engine by name, but the previous comment did. Jeez Japanese.) Interesting. I wonder if that’s difficulty porting or just difficulty making things in general? Either way, I know some people that read this in Japanese back in the day thought it was really good, so maybe the new translation can showcase that a bit more. I’m still expecting it to be a bit lame, though, judging by the text of the trailer… Just the usual level of minor cringe at inability to write English, I guess. Maybe it’s just using better MTL, lol. It’s getting hard to tell these days. Good reason for any translator to actually learn to write decent English prose… Fs in the chat for the Biman schizo — those who know, know.
I was about to say Nie no Hakoniwa took a long time to get any progress, but it’s not out in Japanese yet! It looks like a simul-release is in the works. Also, I guess I was mixing it up with Nie no Machi because I thought it was BL when it’s actually your average male-oriented vn as far as I can tell. No word on whether it will have ero or not, but it’s from a new NEKO WORKs subbrand… Does that make it more or less likely? Madokami knows. I think I’m guessing no, it won’t — the Japanese site uses ビジュアルノベル, which is sort of unusual for eroge.
Finally, Love Lab’s announcement of Ever Maiden is pretty cool to me. Hata will speak a bit more about it later, but it’s interesting to see Love Lab still operating while its head, Meru, works at Fakku. I figured she’d maybe given up on her loc company, so it heartens me to see them still going. Unless I missed something and she’s no longer employed at Fakku? God knows, Steiner left PQube after all.」

Alright, this week’s non-productivity is entirely my fault since I’ve not been following my tasks. Well, this is the primary cause, but the secondary is that while I could bring my PC to my parents, I’m probably running with the worst battlestation setup imaginable right now. It’s literally a monitor with a keyboard on my lap, almost no deskspace and a second monitor simulated with spacedesk. This is due my parents house having the ingenious design where there’s a huge family bed in the middle of the room and the space around it is basically corridors which limit leg space when you actually want to have a PC desk setup there. It’s awful… but I’ll manage I guess.
Okay, let’s start with the fan translation content. Akagoei is happily moving on, inching ever closer to 50k completed lines (80.25%) right now. I hope you enjoyed the podcast episode that we recommended last week. I actually never managed to get through it… 5 hours of tierlist is a bit much for my tiktok brain.
The Dragon Knight 4 fan translation had an update with 58% translation.. Well, that’s nice, I guess 🙂
Ken ga Kimi actually is translated with the exact same percentage. What is this game, you ask? Well, it’s one of the most desired otome games, no biggie. It’s quite rare for the otome scene to have running fan translations, mainly because otome often release on consoles, making it not as simple to create fan patches for them – you’d require some crazy reverse engineering and decrypting skills and then you might only be able to create a version for the low percentage of people owning a Homebrewed/modded console. Anyways, Ken ga Kimi is massive in size and it’s probably going to take a looong time until this project is actually presentable. Since it’s an 18+ otome game (No it’s not, Hata… what were you smoking? -Zaka), there’s only little hope for it to be released officially in English, maybe by DLSite if they desire so?
After a rather hopeful announcement of a fan translation for Sakura no Uta a couple weeks earlier, there now appeared a rather troll-looking project for the sequel Sakura no Toki which boasts a whole 1% completion. It’s highly unlikely that this is a real project, but on the off-chance it is… it’s really not the best practice to advertise your new project with a rather polarizing screenshot of your translation that included a politically charged buzzword. It’s time and time proven that this kind of political expression is nothing people want to see inside their localized games, be it officially or from fan translators. However, I also read a comment that this might be justified use of this word — it’s “feminazi” by the way — so we will have to see… I’m questioning this project and put my beads into Akari & Love’s Sakura no Uta fan translation basket.
Speaking of scajige, Tsui no Sora: Remake could be finished by this year. It’s currently at 94% translated and 91% edited which is very close to being “done” unless they want to add a lengthy QA phase or actually reach out to Frontwing/Makura/Scaji or anyone to get this officially released. There’s no shot this will happen, but it’s a possibility if they desired to do so. Scaji doesn’t seem like the type to DMCA these projects since he ends up liking them on Twitter. Funnily enough, Makura did DMCA their Sakuuta/Sakutoki songs in osu! before, so they’re somewhat litigious… Well, we’re going to see how this will end. I already played Tsuire before and I would do it again. It”s a good game and the Yasuko Route is awesome content! I love Ayana! Scaji, you squishy bastard!
Tsuma Netori is almost finished with proofreading too. This game might release for Christmas!
On the official releases side, of the major players, there have been only Sekai Project and Shiravune releases this week. Sekai releases My Academy’s Special Place (Gakkou no Seiiki) one of the feng titles that Sekai Project saved months prior. This now means that the whole Seiiki series is available in English, consisting of Kanojo no Seiiki, Imouto no Seiiki and Gakkou no Seiiki. If I get those, I might grab them in a discounted bundle, but otherwise…
Nie no Hakoniwa is 70% done with its engine work. Looking forward to this being done. Is it just me or is Sekai Project picking up pace a lot quicker than we’re used to?
Shiravune have released both Destiny Star Girlfriend and My Slow Life with the Princess Knight and Her Devoted Handmaiden this week. Two decidedly nukige, though the Slow Life one sounds more interesting to me. I might pick it up when I can 🙂
The big announcement of the week that no one expected (except me) was Lovelab coming out with their localization announcement of Ever Maiden, one of Liar-Soft’s most anticipated titles. This feels so much like a Love Lab title, you wouldn’t believe – given that Meru worked on Yuri titles like Flowers, Tsuyuchiru and Curse of Kudan before. I’m happy that more and more LiarSoft licenses are going around different publishers. It might be possible to get out more of their catalogue in the near future. Alpha-Nighthawk, Beta-Sixdouze, Sona-Nyl, Ever Maiden… maybe one day a Mareni title like Fairytale Requiem may follow as well?
The rest of the announced titles are nukige from Artlink and Tensei Games which often have questionable translations, so I won’t talk about them.
And then the week ends with yet another announcement for a Cherry Kiss title, this time it’s Ara Ara Incest, slated for January 12th. Who will voice act in it this time? Time will tell.
Let me be frank by saying that I prefer to ignore the announcements from both of artlink and Tensei Games releases. That aside, funny on how both this week and last week big news are related to both Type-Moon and Liar-soft, even though it’s just re-released (Mahoyo PC version) and announcement (Ever Maiden) with last week is the releases. Shiravune also did announce Ego’s Spark with nice art courtesy of Study Steady artist, although it’s just short VN with single heroine.
