On the Fuwanovel site, we’re still working on the new design. The last touches need to be decided on. We definitely missed the big Oct. 1st deadline, but it will still happen – on my mom. Together with the new site, a lot of pages need to be changed and adjusted, new texts have to be written, a website history, GDPR, Privacy content, blaaaaaah. As Happiness would say a lot of paperwork shit.
A great thing we added to our Discord recently is a new Developers Area which emerged from a single channel. Now there are #recruitment, #programming and #critique chats in order to help indies of all walks of life to make the greatest games possible. This place will also grow a lot once we start advertising it. This is NOT meant to be a revolution against places like DevTalk or LoveVN, we’re just offering shelter for community members who always wanted or are already creating. 「In some areas, no news is good news. For visual novels… maybe not so much. No releases this week. Though I guess there isn’t literally no news — Sona-Nyl at last exiting beta feels pretty big. Koestl (kamitranslator)’s work on the title was mostly done many years ago, with some bonus content… still done three years ago. Either MangaGamer, Liar-Soft, or both have dragged their feet at a near imperceptible shuffle trying to get it out. It’s hard to know if it’s console content integration woes, very low priority due to expecting it to flop, or just plain incompetence. Perhaps it’s all three! Back in 2019 previous MG translator Arunaru said MangaGamer only paid project managers a flat fee of “at most $100” per project, as part of a post detailing why he was leaving MangaGamer. This is… kind of insane, and honestly the weirdest part to me is that they have any releases at all. Though I think JAST was quite similar for a long while before hiring an actual manager, leading to “JAST time” becoming a community meme. I mean, not that you can’t still meme on them. Where’s Sumaga? Django? Katahane? I’d also like a partridge in a pear tree, thanks for asking.
Since we haven’t got much else I care about, let’s look at the new releases to find out how many of them are uninteresting nukige. Dead of the Brain looks like a boomer adventure game with enough VN-ness to make it into vndb due to the time period, but hey it doesn’t seem to be a nukige. I have to say, the previous title this translator worked on seems a bit grammatically suspect. How do you just put this as a screenshot for a game without realizing the problem? Also all the grammar issues on the romhacking page like “an cult classic”. I guess considering there’s no proofreader in the credits this kind of thing was always likely. No mom my editing work hasn’t given me permanent brain damage I swear—
Other than that we have Ghost Girl Ghussy, where I’m quite sure the inventive English name might be the best part of the enterprise, and Hentai HOTLADY, which is more or less what I expected. 2/3 nukige! It could be worse. It could be better. The 1/3 could not be boomerge, for example. There’s been so many of those recently we did a whole article on it. If you actually like them, feel free to go there instead of reading my high-sodium retardation. Aight, onto Hata! I wonder if he’ll keep any of the really dumb shit I put as placeholders for his section this time.」

Zaka gave me some very weird image suggestions to shape my VNTS around… guess I have to pull something from my sleeves. How about shitty German proverbs that don’t work translated to English and just make the monolinguals frown. Or maybe Zaka can teach me some Swedish ones… Maybe the Internet can, let me try..
Wait, some of those look really similar to German ones, but they mean entirely different things. Let’s compare three of them:
Swedish: Det ligger en hund begraven – Something smells fishy
German: Da liegt der Hund begraben – This is the root of the problem.
Swedish: Dra inte alla över en kam – Don’t judge a book by its cover.
German: Nicht alles über einen Kamm scheren – Don’t generalize things.
Swedish: Ingen ko på isen – Don’t worry
German: Da ist die Kuh vom Eis – The problem has been solved.
Okay, meaning differences are major even though by wordchoice and structure they look similar. The same issue exists with Dutch that looks to me like drunk German as much as German looks like drunk Dutch to them. We must all admit that language learning is difficult, especially for languages like Swedish.
After my digression, let’s proceed with VNTS content. Let’s see what’s there. Yup, still 0 releases.
I don’t have to say much about ChusinGura, but our very inactive Cherry Kiss Games translator and Fuwanovel Alumni Dergonu (wow someone has to update his VNDB page…) has recently picked up this game again for a second readthrough after years. He seems to really love the game, but we do have to admit that it’s a massive title to translate. A lot of old ass Japanese lol. You are probably aware that the 46+1 actually stands for the number of heroines in the game? You don’t believe me, check this huge ass list on VNDB. Oh, and Derg recently did an moderating act on the forums, he’s basically back now!
Dead of the Brain FM-Towns port is getting worked on by JackDBS who just nonchalantly announced the project on our server after pondering whether he should. It looks much more interesting than the other vintage eroge we recently reported about. Actually, I would like for him to join our team since finding someone tech-savvy enough to translate PC-98 or similar system’s titles is very niche. Fuwa loves gobbling up an expert for every niche. Him as well.
That’s it about fan translation actually, so let’s transition into the official progress. MangaGamer thought it time to post another project status round-up and most surprisingly Steiner has been hacking away at Rance X in unfathomable consistency. He’s actually 70,5% through the translation ordeal. Sometimes there’s some updates on his twitter and the recent one was huge where he declared the milestone that he finished one of the Big Three spreadsheets. Kudos to him so far, just two more to go…
Other than this, almost every other project of MangaGamer seems to be making ample progress. I super look forward to play DEAD DAYS in English and Hana Awase and Luckydog1‘s also waiting. The latter actually got a very recent update post on Twitter by editor sharpestrose. My question is just why the Luckydog1 editing days are so sparcely distributed… phew… it is actually getting really warm in my room right now. I shall turn on my ceiling fan. I’m a total mAnslut for fans in summer.
Okay, after this Anslut of MangaGamer updates, there’s not much else to talk about extensively. Shiravune has been happily announcing titles like Destiny Star Girlfriend and Kuroinu Redux 2 being the next games in line for their releases. We’ve actually been working hard to cover all the Shiravune releases since they distribute them much earlier than other companies do, so there’s like a bunch of keys just on our curator account waiting to be distributed to writers. DSG, The Shell, Marauders, Amazing Grace are already in the hands of different authors, but no we got some leewa… goddamn Tenioha just came in!
The last title is Ghost Girl Ghussy: XXXL which will release on October 20th and once again I need to applaud Dergonu for managing to incorporate meme slang that will age terribly into a game title without people going on the barricades of preserving the authorial intent for it. Maybe they just give a fuck about nukige… Can’t wait for more gen z nukige titles to see the light of day. Leave it to Derg. After all he was born a memer.」

Proving that you simply cannot learn Swedish:

This one might actually be a weird borrowing corruption, but the different grammatical nuances here support the differing meanings. In Swedish, we’re saying “There is a dog buried” or for clarity “there exists a dog that is buried somewhere around here”, but in German it looks like you’re saying “in *that place* there is a dog buried”. The Swedish version doesn’t specify the location, so it’s got a different logical meaning.

The Swedish meaning here is actually the same as the German one. Whatever dictionary you were using is bunk if it didn’t include the generalization meaning, as it’s the main one in use. Maybe the only one.
The cow one is similar. In German you’re getting the cow off the ice, but in Swedish you’ve prevented the cow from getting on in the first place. The Swedish version seems to come from a longer expression “There’s no cow on the ice as long as its back feet are on solid ground”; cows can save themselves if the ice of a lake they’re drinking from breaks as long as they’ve got their back feet on the shore, so as long as that holds you can breathe easy. Hope that helps!
Looks like 4chan did miss that Mangagamer do the updates at the last week, although with the lack of the news in this week other than Venus Blood short FD KS announcement and Shiravune release date announcement, perhaps it’s good they decided to do that so we have Rance IX big progress as the biggest update in this week (Although my concern is on Ixseal updates though).
