Vintage eroge fans have been eating well during the last week as multiple fan translation projects for obscure games have been released. We’re talking about T2 Co., Ltd.’s Temptation, elf‘s Dragon Knight II and AliceSoft‘s D.P.S..
Temptation is a short title from T2 Co., Ltd., — the company that would later be succeeded by the Hentai-OVA studio Pink Pineapple Co., Ltd. It was their second release for the PC-9801 in 1995 and then, a year later, for the more obscure computer system Fujitsu FMTowns in 1996. The English patch for this game works with the FMTowns/FM Towns Marty version.
This eroge is based on the original adult manga Temptation: Erotic Eccentric (orig. 誘惑（エロティックエキセントリック) by Utatane Hiroyuki. It was released in 1993.
Players assume the role of private eye Kyo Saeki, a former police detective who’s left the force to go into business for himself. The detective is a big fan of video games, and loves spending time at the local arcade (called “Spot 31”) practicing his skills in the latest fighting games. He’s also got a weakness for life’s vices, such as drinking, smoking, gambling, and of course, women.
One day, a young woman visits his office requesting that he take on her case. The crime? A painting belonging to her late father has gone missing, likely stolen by her step-mother. The hero must solve his client’s family mystery by gleaning clues through romantic encounters with women in town.
Dragon Knight II
Just a day prior to the Temptation release, there had been the release of the élf classic Dragon Knight II over at romhacking. It needs to be said that this is indeed a machine translation, but with these old games, beggars can’t be choosers, since you don’t only require the language skills for translating these titles, but the whole insertion and technical aspects are a huge endeavour for such obscure systems. The translator (elf89) admitted to it being MTL, but also added that they did some polishing of the script.
Dragon Knight II is an epic fantasy adventure eroge title by élf that was first released back at the start of the 90s for PC-9801. Since then, it saw releases on the PC-8801, the MSX, SharpX68000 and the PC-Engine, all released between 1990 and 1992. There are four Dragon Knight games, all direct sequels of each other.
After liberating the city of Phoenix from an evil curse in his previous adventure, Takeru finds himself in a situation unworthy of his heroic status: robbers have taken all his possessions, including his magic sword, and even his clothes! So the first task for the unsuccessful hero is to get some money. Luckily, the mayor has an assignment for him, for which he is also willing to pay. Takeru accepts the assignment without knowing what it will lead to – traveling all over the world, fighting fearsome enemies, encountering beautiful women, and solving a mystery that will also reveal the secret of his own true identity!
D.P.S (Dream Program System)
The last fan translation project is unfortunately another MTL — also done by reputable people, so it might be fine. D.P.S (Dream Program System) is a collection of three short unrelated stories by AliceSoft.
D.P.S has been released for countless systems over the years up until the newest Windows release in 2008. One of these versions had been fan translated before, even. The version we want to highlight today is a PC9801 port of the Windows version script with little polish. You can download it here.
Keep in mind this is not even close to our usual quality standards. But I REALLY didn't want to translate that cringefest from scratch, having suffered enough with Shangrlia 2's H-scenes. Take it or leave it... - BabaJeanmel
This patch converts this old school AliceSoft ADV game to a hard-drive installed format, and inserts the English script from the 2020 Windows translation by velt211. The script has been massively revamped from the original version, so it's more an "enhanced script port" than a straight one. That being said, it has NOT been retranslated from scratch. Please read the details and instructions in the enclosed readme file. DISCLAIMER: Like many AliceSoft games, this one includes a lot of content people may find offensive. Play at your own discretion, and stay the hell out of it if you're not 18 yet.
D.P.S. is a collection of three short scenarios, which are unrelated to each other story-wise and can be played separately. Those scenarios are presented as cartridges played on a fictional console named Dream Program System. Each scenario allows the player to choose between two different protagonists, or two different personalities for the protagonist. All of the scenarios feature nudity and/or sexual situations.
The scenarios in this game include:
1. A medieval fantasy tale entitled Princess Fantasy, in which the player controls a knight who accompanies a princess on a journey. Depending on the personality choice, the knight can either be brave and compassionate, or cynically take advantage of the helpless girl.
2. A typical “naughty doctor” story, in which the player – as either male or female school doctor – has to “examine” young and pretty female patients, trying not to scare them away by employing too direct methods.
3. An encounter between a famous female pop idol and her fan (also female), which leads to a bizarre sexual experience. The player can choose to control the events from the point of view of either the star or the fan.
