Last September 29th, indie dev Heiden released their latest project A Heart of Butterblue on Steam and Itch.io. Originally released as a demo back in March, A Heart of Butterblue marks Heiden’s 15th VN release since they started in 2013.
Heiden is a solo indie dev whose main focus is creating LGBT-friendly character-driven VNs and RPGs. They released their first VN, Elvine, back in 2013 on the Lemmasoft forums. Since then, they’ve released at least one game per year on different platforms. These games are mostly available on their itch.io page (with a few exceptions). They’ve released three of these games on Steam as well. At the time of writing, they’re planning to release a catboy game next according to their Twitter description.
A murdered father and a missing grandfather... It is under these circumstances that Phebe finds herself moving to the isolated frontier town of Edgeville. Rumors have it that monsters roam the lands after dark and anyone caught outside is never heard from again. With eerie murderous howling heard every night, Phebe has no choice to become accustomed to this new life if she wants to find her missing grandfather. Play as this polite city girl as she forages, farms and (possibly) woos the local villagers as she navigates this new life of hers. Steam
- Forage, fish, farm and buy items in order to uncover the mystery of Phebe’s missing grandfather.
- Three villagers to get close to, each of whom might have their own secrets.
- Time progresses as you play, keep your eye on the clock!
- A free, complete mystery/otome game drawn, coded and written by a solo dev
Heiden uploaded a video of the game’s first 30 minutes on their Youtube channel, in case people wanted to check it out before downloading the game. Check it out yourself!
A Heart of Butterblue is now available to download on Steam and itch.io for free.
