Welcome to the Fuwanovel VNTS, where we shamelessly copy the work of one illustrious 4chan /jp/ member in collating translation progress and add minor dabs of value through corrections and additions. Entries with updates this week in bold.

Time for a Christmas Episode of the VNTS! Merry Christmas! Mary Curry! Merikuri! Happy KFC and whatever other Christmas wishes we can come up with. Hope y’all got some fresh loot or straight up money to import some more VNs with.

Hata has been sick for the last week (the big C, but he’s slowly getting better) and he should be fit again by next week. While there shouldn’t be, Fuwa is in winter break right now, but we’re going to recover soon enough.

Okay but why the fucking alcohol bottle shit though I swear to god

Meow. This week sees the release of a nukige by a kami artist, an NTR nukige by presumably some worthless rando, another NTR nukige, some moegay I will not deign to mention, ONE -less soul edition-, oh and to top it off another nukige! This one had a probably-wrong title romanization on vndb so I changed it. Eagerly awaiting someone finding proof 忍堕とし is in fact somehow “Shinobi Da to shi” and not the “Shinobi Otoshi” it reasonably should be. I’m not sure that last one isn’t MTL as the previous DLsite release was MTL and Steam publisher Mango party doesn’t show any english text ingame in its pictures nor list translation as a service they provide. Lastly, I suppose it’s nice to see signs of life from Happy Saint Sheol, as it’s been there without news in the Sekai section for ages.

Happy Saint Sheol looks interesting, but no clear plans to release it with the ero the Japanese version had is alarming. That said, I’m not sure if you want to read it in Japanese — just look at this shit:

Wow, it’s so soulful. Pity that my eyeballs would actually have to read the text rather than abstractly appreciate its individuality and clearly fitting mimicry of text styles of old. After all, it really fits the style of these graphics, right?

The graphics really have that retro pixelly look too! For real on god! I hate this shit! Just let me actually read actual readable text! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Autistic rant over, Ego’s Spark looks serious on the cover, but it kind of feels like a coomer ge in disguise. The android girl with the “ego” is literally trained like a sexbot and has the kami fuck stats and strats, but doesn’t like that apparently. I’m sure if you make her fall in love with you she’ll be okay with it though. There’s still an off chance it’ll have some depth to it I guess. Oh, and ONE, legendary game with soulful graphics, is now fully out wherever you want it. It was jank back then, and it seems they might not have changed the jankiness much, so here’s a good time to see a museum piece. Honestly I read the English translation ages ago and the weirdness compared to newer stuff is kind of charming, but be ready for some truly baffling decisions too. I wonder if they changed that one scene in Nagamori’s route, but not enough to actually check. It’s a weird one, but it was kind of cool in some aspects too. People just don’t appreciate the meta context, maaaaaan.

The Hatabox of Highly Diabetic Candy

「Good evening, Christmas friends! Have you celebrated well, you excellent motherduckers? Outside of the awful Covid infection (my first ever! Surprise!) shackling me to the bed for approximately a week now, I’m doing great. I got some cool stuff in my christmas loot: Most of it is money, but also a SONY camera, a SONY tripod, and a multi-slot charging station came into my possession. The family is also doing well, but me having the C obviously threw some of our family dinner plans in jeopardy. It’s a bittersweet Christmas, but there have been worse ones.

Let’s see what this week had to offer. Granted, I have not been looking into VNTS for this whole week, because I anticipated that there wouldn’t be many new things during Christmas – besides ONE’s Remake – but I’m happy being proven wrong. I’m going to sink my teeth into the Happy Saint Sheol Demo for sure. But let’s go through it one by one:

Chusingura 46+1 is making more progress at the same pace as always, but Akatsuki no Goei hasn’t been updated. I guess Bee is celebrating Christmas or something.

There was a new release for a game called CITY no.109: Arisu Hen -Jo-. I remember having stumbled across this multiple times when randoming through VNDB. It has this kind of artstyle that just pops out, but so far it hasn’t roused my interest enough to try it. However, the game patch for this is 405MB big which strikes me as odd… if this is a pre-patch, then I’m not going to play it. I thought we’re beyond the time where VNDB straight links to pirated games idk. Well, it’s loli cyberpunk.

A Christmas Miracle has happened. Someone gave the editor of Kusarihime ~Euthanasia~ some white line of snow and they managed to finish the remaining half of the editing work for the game in record time. The game now boasts the prestigious status “fully edited”. Maybe we can still pick it up this year? I’d love to!

Rattanman has finally released his new translation project of Tsuma Netori on the 22^nd of December. I already sunk my teeth into that one and also blogposted some of it on Discord which was responded to with “what are you doing? You can’t critique the translation quality of a game without having the JP script right next to it! :sobbing:” Whether this is possible or not is a debate for another day, but this was a bit demotivating to me, so I’m going to not post much about it. The translation does have some flaws and it includes some fan translation shenanigans that shouldn’t be there, like entire context explanations of scenes, double entendres or japanese food in parantheses just so you can maintain that the character ate tonkatsu or whatever… I guess that’s something the translator believes in. I find it immersion breaking and I wouldn’t use it – especially not as often. Also, see the above screenshot…
