Last August, well-known VN localizer JAST announced through Twitter the release date for ninetail‘s dungeon crawler RPG GEARS of DRAGOON: Fragments of a New Era. It was originally meant to release on September 28th, but ended up being delayed to October 20th – the Steam version got delayed again until October 23rd. Upon release, the 18+ DLC for the Steam version will be available on JAST as well!
GEARS of DRAGOON: Fragments of a New Era, also known as GEARS of DRAGOON 2, was released by ninetail back in 2016 in Japan. ninetails is an eroge publisher that releases games containing gameplay distinct from the usual click-and-read familiar to VN readers. Known for working on titles such as the Venus Blood series with fellow Studio Kyuubi imprint dualtail, ninetail celebrated its 10th year anniversary with the release of GEARS of DRAGOON: Fragments of a New Era, the spiritual successor to the first GEARS of DRAGOON game. JAST calls the game Ninetails’ magnum opus, drawing inspiration from classic JRPGs with its intense combat and immersive top-down exploration.
Set in a world where magic reigns supreme, players will find themselves exploring Carnas, a city-state founded on a thriving arcane culture. But with the rise of individuals that use mechanical wonders to do their bidding, the city’s balance is threatened, causing unrest among its citizens. As two conflicting ideologies battle for superiority, the secrets underneath the city start to be put to light.
The game features over 50 hours of story content coupled with engaging dungeon-crawling gameplay and a cast of over 20 characters with high-quality Japanese voice acting.
