[Review] Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria

I think it’s safe to say that the original Valkyrie Profile, released in 1999, is one of the most unique JRPGs out there, and is undoubtedly among the heaviest of heavy-hitters in the PlayStation’s illustrious library, with its action-packed battle system, refreshingly unconventional mechanics and unique storyline inspired by Norse mythology. I mean, c’mon, what other game lets you play as a Valkyrie and guide fallen heroes to Valhalla to help you in the coming Ragnarok? Yeah. Not too many. In 2006, the game received a sequel for the PS2 that’s actually kind of a prequel, and as its title suggests, Lenneth is no longer the central Valkyrie of the story: we instead follow Silmeria and Alicia, the princess of Dipan, on a grand adventure about gods, mortals and one very, very horny necromancer.
