Visual Novel Translation Status (01/20/2018)

This week’s header image comes from Majo Koi Nikki, one of the Fan TL projects we track.

VNTS (Visual Novel Translation Status Updates Series) is published each Saturday and brings the latest updates from VN translation projects — both licensed and by fans — from around the net. If you find any errors, or you think a project is missing from this list, please let us know in the comments.

From The Team:  I’m exhausted and craving hummus. That’s really all I have to say. It’s a bit of a quieter week on the VNTS scene, but you’ll find a couple interesting updates down below. I can’t promise that I’ll come back and write a commentary essay this week, but I’ll try. I will try. – Tay

Also, it’s the season of licensing surveys. Both MangaGamer and Sol Press have active licensing surveys out: MangaGamer; Sol Press. If you want your voice heard by the major publishers, then that’s the best way. – Decay

Decay’s MusingsLong time no see, everyone. Last week’s purge was pretty underwhelming compared to the purges of years past. The bloodthirsty part of me wanted more chances to swing the ol’ axe. The reasonable part of me is happy that it wasn’t as big of a bloodbath as previous ones. Interestingly, we purged a few official translations this year. These games were announced, then never marketed nor officially canceled. They just vanished. This is textbook vaporware. You have to draw that line somewhere and stop getting people’s hopes up for these games.

The highest-profile cut is Angel Beats. It would’ve been nice if VisualArts said anything at all about it over the last 18 months, but at this point, we no longer have any idea what’s happening with it. Is it still coming out? Is it coming out with under a different publisher? Who knows. The game was never formally announced in the first place. It was mentioned in passing at a convention Q&A session and then never mentioned again. The way we see it, it’s no longer worth listing. If it is still in the works, we suspect it will get a proper, formal announcement in some form. We can always add it back then. I wouldn’t hold your breath for it in the meantime.

What were your longest shot suggestions in the license surveys? I’m not talking about the standard untouchable stuff like Fate/Stay Night or White Album 2. What did you ask for that nobody in their right mind would license? For me, it was Saihate no Ima. Yes, this is a game with over 100 votes on VNDB, where half of them are 10/10s. I still think you’d have to be totally nuts to license this game. It is a maddeningly complex experiment, making it a nightmare to translate. And yet, it would probably hit the English market like a wet fart. But man, do I wish someone would try. JAST would be the most obvious company since they’ve done other Xuse games, but if they won’t, someone else shouldn’t!

Excited for the Licensing Survey season, and looking forward to the results.
This year, again, I suggested Kanojo x Kanojo x Kanojo by ωstar and Amakano by Azarashi Soft. Perhaps this is the year they’ll get noticed. I also suggest Signal Heart by Purple Software but I doubt that’s ever happening.

Nice that there is a real blog post comment again (Thanks to Decay). I already thought they would have been gone for good and I tend to enjoy them the most. 🙂

The first vn that comes to my mind is “Getsuei Gakuen kou”along with the original “GG ergo”.
It’s probably never going to get a license but it’s one of those vn that I’d like to try reading just for the experience, plus Tomokazu Sugita is the original story writer AND he also voices a character in it.

As for the VN that I want to be licensed that was quite a long shot, I did suggest Senshinkan to Mangagamer. For the info, Masada of Dies Irae fame write that as well so it’ll be hard to be translated according to some people.

Here’s my VNTS Review for this week, and enjoy even though it’s a bit short for some of you (I mean the review).

I asked for Kenka Banchou Otome since it won Spike-Chuunsoft’s poll last year but hasn’t been heard from since. Yes, I’m still mad about that. Unfortunately, it’s a vita game so unless Aksys picks it up, I think it’ll only remain as the troll entry.

Mangagamer don’t seem to work with vita games, so far they work with pc stuff
also Spike don’t translate their own games, they send to 3rd party to pick it up but so far nobody took it so far, it’s a better idea try NISA and they did said they wanted to localize Utapri but wanted to wait for the vita port that is already out and the sequels are also getting ports

Hey guys, you might’ve heard already, but we’ve decided to NOT translate Tsujidou-san no Jun’Ai Road’s sequel/fandisc.

You can read more about it here. https://tsurezurescans.wordpress.com/2018/01/21/tsujidou-san-no-junai-road-update-31/

Gist of it is, is that Triplicate (translator) simply doesn’t like the VN.

for me, what i like to be licensed is Mamiya-kunchi no Itsutsugo Jijou or Kurano-kunchi no Futago Jijou from Cube, Seikishi Melt Lovers or Koikishi Purely Kiss. Hell, I WANT IT SO BAD

Unfortunately there’s no VNTS for this week, although I’d already make VNTS Review though. So here’s my VNTS Review for this week, and hope you enjoy it.

PS – Now that I saw Apeiria opening and the review, maybe it would be better choice for Mangagamer survey earlier.
