Visual Novel Translation Status (03/18/2017)

This week’s header image comes from our two releases: RE: Birthday Song (VNDB; Release) and Narcissu Sumire (VNDB; Steam), which is the last piece of the Narcissu 10th Anniversary Project on PC.

VNTS (Visual Novel Translation Status Updates Series) is published each Saturday and brings the latest updates from VN translation projects — both licensed and by fans — from around the net. If you find any errors, or you think a project is missing from this list, please let us know in the comments.

From The Team:  Sorry for the delay on today’s post! I want to congratulate our friends over at Otome Adventures for completing and releasing their Re:Birthday Song patch. It’s been a wild ride, and a patch release is an exciting moment. Also note that Narcissu Sumire was released, which fully completes the Narcissu 10th Anniversary project on Steam.

VNTS Commentary Section

Zakabox™ 「This is the place where Zaka occasionally shares his wisdom. Will he show up this week? Will he have anything to say? Only time will tell.」

Decay’s MusingsHello everyone! Sorry for the short commentary this week, but there’s no time for a normal one, we’re delivering this post to you piping hot! Some quick thoughts for the week.

1) I’m glad to see the Narcissu 10th Anniversary Project finally completed. I may actually give that series a shot now. Or so I thought, until I saw the translator saying that he’s thinking of redoing parts of 1 and 2’s translation. At this point I’ll never find a good time to hop on board.

2) Yakuza 0 is really freaking good.

3) The new Hearthstone expansion looks cool so far.

4) We added Whirlpool’s upcoming English release, two weeks late. Oops! It seems to be a pretty porny game so it’s weird that there’s no 18+ version announced. I suspect that one will get announced eventually, once their actual localization partner surfaces and makes an announcement (assuming they have one and aren’t doing this internally).

5) Congrats to the Birthday Song team. Glad to see more fan TL releases.

6) Chrono Clock review “soon.” Sneak Peak: It’s pretty alright.

Laters.

TAYsteful Thoughts™ Already late to publish today’s entry, so not going to write commentary this week. Hope everyone is well and surviving exams. Congrats, again, to Otome Adventures and their release of RE: Birthday Party. Have a good week, everybody!

Most important news? SKM is still alive. Was worried what would happen when Luna TL died. Also about simultaneously to this release Hatsukoi 1/1 had an update 51.53% overall with Runa patch coming this week.

I think Whirlpool is translating it in-house. There is no localization team. Sad, really.

Again some very slow progress on updates this week. Its taking MangaGamer forever to bring out Imouto 2 and Evangile. Quite frustrating.

I don’t know what made you think that Whirlpool is translating Nekonin in house, but in any case, Sekai Project just announced today that they will be the ones publishing it, including the 18+ version.

I bet one of manga gamer secret projects is a rance game like 03 OR rance quest

03 strikes me as extremely unlikely. They would most certainly want to do 01 and 02 first.

My belated VNTS Review, and sorry for that. Enjoy.

By the way, for more additional news, there’s Aiyoku no Eustia project which I’ll try to keep my eyes at that for now.

Is the Narcissu game you listed a prequel or replacement of previous games? They have so many versions out that I have no idea where to start the series. Never played them before. Do you have some advice?

I don’t actually know much about the Narcissu series. I would suggest reading them in release order, as I do with any series. Narcissu 1&2 are free on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/264380/), though it seems like it will be soon getting an engine and translation enhancement for owners of the 10th Anniversary project.

that kind of reason does it works for titles that have been in that state for more than 3 months?
sakusaku was ‘technically’ ready 9 months ago.
don’t really recall SP or MG releasing two big titles close together (glad to being wrong if it happened)

Typically they give titles a month or so to breathe, but MangaGamer released Himawari and Rance 5/6 in the same month for one example, so it doesn’t always happen like that. In any case, SP has had plenty of time in the past nine months to release a major title like SakuSaku, and they definitely want that money as soon as possible. So if they could have released it by now, they certainly would have. Maybe they decided that there were issues they needed to go back and work out in the translation. Maybe there are licensing issues at play, or other such business issues. Who knows.

so many games hitted 100% on SP and MG side for a while now and they’re yet to even announce some release date.
with the exception of CC which was a bit “forced” i think it’s obvious they’re looking to spread out those games thoughout the year (or even 2 or 3 years)

There’s a lot of work that goes into a release even after it’s 100% translated and edited, such as testing and tech work, and there’s not always a lot of people available who can handle that. Technical work is especially a major hangup, MangaGamer and Sekai Project both seem prone to get backlogged there.

Project Lux probably should be removed from the list. It doesn’t look like a visual novel, like at all.
