Visual Novel Translation Status (02/04/2017)

This week’s header image comes from our lone release: School Idol QT Cool (VNDB) which you can pick up over on MangaGamer

VNTS (Visual Novel Translation Status Updates Series) is published each Saturday and brings the latest updates from VN translation projects — both licensed and by fans — from around the net. If you find any errors, or you think a project is missing from this list, please let us know in the comments.

From The Team:  Hey everybody! I’m tired. How about you? Also, I’d like to circle around and see what the Da Capo 3 players think now that we have some time under our belts and many of us have finished it (royal “us”, I haven’t finished it, myself). One release this week (School Idol QT Cool, nsfw). Do note, however, that a few games popped up on MangaGamer this week:

Decay’s Movie Review CornerSup all. Anyone else ever feel like your tastes have become too one-dimensional over time? You find something you really enjoy, then stick in that comfort zone for way too long until you eventually become out of touch with everything else. That’s me! I’ve been trying to keep up with music and to a lesser extent anime, but I only really half-ass that effort. But for movies, TV shows, manga, and books? Yeah, I’m completely out of the loop on those.

So this week I decided to catch up on one of those. And being the intensely lazy man I am, I opted for the lowest-hanging fruit available: Movies. I toyed with the idea of reading all of 3gatsu no Lion, but Christ, look at how many chapters it has! So movies it is. The only movies I remember watching in the last five years are Dark Knight Rises, Cabin in the Woods, and Mad Max Fury Road (a masterpiece). I looked up the top rated movies of the last five years and decided to have a go at them, starting with Snowpiercer.

Snowpiercer is kinda bad, it turns out! I don’t understand why it received critical praise, to be honest. The concept is neat, but they don’t execute on it very well. The acting is dull, the direction and writing are kinda eye-roll-worthy. The parables they were attempting to draw seemed much too shallow to be of any interest, and the action was just kind of boring, so I just couldn’t find anything to like about it. The part in the mid-point where the protagonist has to make a tragic decision to further the cause of his revolution actually elicited a laugh from me at how cornily directed that moment was.

After that was Hell or High Water. I liked that one a bit more! It’s billed as a “neo-western,” though the analogs to the western genre seem tenuous at best. The characters were interesting, and the movie was well paced. If it’s gonna try to be a western, though, I think I’d prefer it darker. I did enjoy Jeff Bridges showing up to land another great performance. That dude hasn’t spent a year without working for the last, what, 40 years?

Next up will be Interstellar. I’m going to watch that as soon as I’m done writing this. I’m a mild Christopher Nolan fan, and it’s been recommended to me. I know it’s not his most beloved film, and it’s more of his brother’s story than his, but I hope it’s at least fun to watch.

Any of you guys have any suggestions for what I should watch next? Recommend me anything produced in the last five or so years that I haven’t already mentioned, I’m game for almost anything except mundane romantic comedies and lame sex comedies. Actually, I dislike most Hollywood comedies, now that I think about it.

That’s it for this week. Next week will be about visual novels again, I swear! See you all then.

TAYsteful Thoughts™Have a good week, everybody!

Snowpiercer is very overrated.

I thought it was alright. Less than memorable.

Captain Fantastic, Midnight Special, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Room, Sicario, Dope. My movie suggestions based on what i thought of this last couple of minutes. They’re all mostly loved by critics and the general public alike, check them out and see for yourself though.

On the Vn front, i wonder if Sumaga will appear this year. I can’t remember the last time the Vn was mentioned by Jast. They’ve been working on it for 4 years or something right?

Thanks for the weekly updates guys, looking forward to a year of interesting releases! Have a great week.

what? chrono clock isn’t even completely translated? I thought they at least finished the translation/edit process since they put up the steam page some days ago. I guess Sekai is adopting the JAST definition of “Soon”.
Sumaga has been fully translated for at least 2 years and it isn’t out yet…maybe by 2020? lol

Its typical of SP. They are, a lot of the time, late in their release dates.

The impression I get is that SP is planning a pretty rapid turnaround, releasing it almost as soon as it’s 100% translated and edited. They got all the tech work done in advance so they can do this.

Interestellar is a masterpiece too. Watch all Nolan’s films.

Indeed. I loved Interstellar. Although towards the end it got rather confusing.

Now that I finished Interstellar, I can give some quick thoughts on it. It’s a great tale of science that whiffed on the human story along the way; the dialogue was a bit lackluster and the human drama largely forgettable. The adventure was thrilling though. The part with Dr. Mann had me good.

The ending wasn’t necessarily confusing for me, but I still didn’t like it. They abandoned hard science for wild theories and wishful thinking. I won’t say more as I don’t wish to spoil.

I loved the first half of interstellar, and then towards the end where it tried to explain itself out it turned to utter crap for me. Shifting from hard scifi to supernatural nonsense was completely out of place. I guess a lot of people who still liked it overall were largely riding on the first half and forgave the second half for it. SAO anyone?

Most of newer Marvel movies are pretty good popcorn cinema, especially Avengers and their top duo Captain America and Ironman. Guardians of the Galaxy not so much though. DC comic adaptions are weaker IMHO but still worth watching. Man of Steal was probably the first Superman movie I’ve ever seen that didn’t suck.

John Wick and Equalizer were decent revenge movies. The Hunger Games were some of the best teenage drama movies I’ve seen in recent times and The Divergent trilogy a decent clone of it. Live – Die – Repeat was a cool time loop and alien invasion movie that reminded me of MuvLuv Alterantive and Prometheus a decent new Alien movie. Wasn’t so fond of the new Start Wars movies though, although Rogue One was better than epsiode 7 which was just horrible.

Interstellar wasn’t so great though, hope you don’t have too high expectations. I liked Gravity more despite its flaws. Hobbit was weaker than Lord of the Rings as expected but still good to challenge a good home cinema system lol. Crimson Peak was also a decent new gothic horror drama I enjoyed.

Regarding TV series, I enjoyed Vampire Diaries (early seasons), Dexter was great almost through all seasons, though Hannibal not so much. First season of Shannara TV series was also a better LotR clone than expected.

Dammit! Isn’t there a fantastic release until now?!
I already finished steins gate 0 and i should say I was disappointed with all my past hype…it didn’t offer anything new or even at a similar scale like the first game.

I’m waiting for chrono clock and tokijeki no leyline (I know I messed up the names) they look cool

Both of those are moege if anything.
Steins gate is the most sci-fi I’ve read until now.

Watch the Babadook, it’s a great tale of how grief and depression can spiral out of control.

I’m looking it up, and it sounds great. This is the kind of indie film I may have never otherwise heard of. Thanks!

So, I do not know if it’s stupid of me to ask, but do any of you know if JAST USA will localise/tranlslate Eiyuu*Senki Gold ?

Decay
Reply to  Kontrah

They haven’t announced that. They said they’re doing regular Eiyuu Senki (18+) and have recently even tweeted about that, but they’ve said nothing about Gold. I think it’s reasonable to assume that if their ES release does well, then Gold could follow suit, but who knows when that will be, what with JAST working at the speed of JAST.
