This week’s header image comes from Miniature Garden (Steam Page)
Hey everybody, welcome back to VNTS. How are you doing? What’s new in your lives? Have you called your mom this week? As for me, things are good. Or don’t. I mean, it’s your life and you can do whatever you want. Seriously, though, it’s, like,
Anyway! Welcome to our weekly VNTS (Visual Novel Translation Status) series, in which we track visual novel translation updates in-house (we don’t rely on /jp/ posts on 4ch, for example) and post it for your enlightenment and enjoyment each Saturday. If you find any errors, or you think a project is missing from this list, please let me know in the comments.

「 Surprise! It’s me, Tay, here this week. As some of you are aware, Zaka went on another vacation without us. The nerve of some people, amirite?
And the worst part of it is that Zaka is totally unrepentant about it. He’s all like laughing about it and smug and posting half-naked pictures of himself on twitter and I’m like ‘seriously zaka?’ and he’s like totally ignoring my glares and then he posts more half-naked pictures of himself on twitter and I’m like,
Anyway, this is all to say that Zaka is probably not going to post a commentary essay this week. And, in case you didn’t follow, the reason why he’s ignoring us is that he’s better than us and on vacation and totally want’s us to be jealous. And we’re all like,
Meanwhile, I’m sitting on my computer writing an essay in his section, alone in a basement, probably alone for life, never to post half-naked pictures of myself on twitter, probably never to go on vacation. I’ll just grow up and be miserable.
– Tay 」
What is this gif overload? Tay, what have you done?? I’m sandwiched between a flurry of memes and I don’t know how to feel about that. Also, sorry for missing last week’s commentary. I’m not gonna lie, after completing my share of the VNTS duties I started playing DanganRonpa 2 and just plain forgot about the whole commentary thing. Uhh… oops? What happened last week? Surely there weren’t any big controversies or news items to chime in on, nope…
This week we almost missed a release, but I noticed it right in the nick of time thanks to the ever vigilant Minah from VNDB. Her attention towards the fujoshi, otome, and EVN scenes have made her an invaluable contributor to VNDB and by extension the greater VN community, so I want to use this space to thank her for her attentiveness even though I’m pretty sure she’ll never read this.
Anyway, Hunk’s Workshop is a bara BL VN. Bara is kinda in short supply, as the large majority of BL is yaoi, but I know there are quite a few out there who enjoy this particular niche. The Hunk’s Workshop fan TL has actually been in the works for over five years now, believe it or not. I think most of us long thought it dead. But without any of us catching on, they started stealthily updating the TLwiki page for it again this year and suddenly added the 100% translation patch August 1st. Big props to the team there for pulling through and finally releasing this. Congratulations!
Oh, I did want to talk a little bit about ChuSinGura chapters 2+3, one of last week’s releases. Unsurprisingly, NextNinja found another way to screw up by accidentally giving the DLC away to thousands of their potential customers for free. They did eventually resolve the matter, at least it’s no longer in my account. If you managed to read it all for the week or so it was free, congratulations? And I figure I’ll mention that the person who translated Chapter 1 surprisingly decently is not the same person responsible for Chapters 2 and 3, and things are basically a tire fire over at NextNinja, so buyer beware? I heard that chapter 2 wasn’t too bad, but I’m not sure how much I should trust it yet. Anyone here try it and have any thoughts?
Shortish commentary for me this week. Just a quickie: I’m also playing Supipara chapter 1 right now, since I was a fan of ef. Early thoughts: Kinda boring! Lots of setup, lots of generic characters. Hopefully something cool happens, I’m holding out hope for that. Anyway, that’s it for me, peace out.
Another week with no podcast. You can blame Decay for this one. For some reason the guy doesn’t want to disturb family guests at his house or something.
So, as far as things you should know go, here they are: 2016 VNTS posts are still broken. I didn’t even work on them this week. I’m a terrible person. Instead, I did some front site work (almost done with back-end stuff! Woot!), and dealt with a nasty threat email, and helped two guys with VNTS data for research papers (I think they’re both undergraduate honors theses, but I’m not 100% sure), and wrote love poetry for batman. In other words,
More updates: I’m almost finished fixing the VN game pages template system, after which I’ll be able to upload a ton of games fairly easily. My internet speed is literally 300x faster than it was last year, and so downloading backups takes a matter of minutes, not something that lasts an evening + night. I’ve neglected the forums. That’s probably something I should go and check out. But every time I do that my inbox starts exploding, and both new and old people start complaining to me about the years-old issue of taking down torrents, and two particular people want to complain about including Otome games in the new front site, and Clephas keeps trying to help me and I feel like a jerk because I don’t respond, and IPB breaks, and then I see another message from ROOKE and I’m like,

>Chrono Clock (MangaGamer) – TL: 26.43% > 26.83%
I’m glad I’m not the only one who did a double-take on that one. Did Chrono switch to MangaGamer? It’s probably a mistake, but man I’d love for them to take it.
Whoops, sorry, that’s just a simple typo.
This week VNTS Review, and let me said it once again that you mistaken Hikari’s translation progress at Hanasaki (It’s 48% instead of 43%. Understandable though since the number was quite hard to look here). Sorry for short entry here.
They just update very late and we can’t catch it in time before the post goes live. We generally make the post late at night and go to bed before scheduling it to go live the next morning.
Thanks for all the help!
The Mangagamer sale is also happening on Steam where titles overlap (so Cho Dengeki Stryker, Ozmafia, Tokyo Babel, Kindred Spirits, Eden*, Fata Morgana, Princess Evangile… only exception I can see is Supipara, whose unrelated sale ended a day into this one). Might help those whose dollars recently turned awful, which makes the Steam prices better in almost all cases. Just remember Steam only sells the All-Ages versions, which only makes a difference if it’s in the game’s title on Steam (for example “Cho Dengeki Styker All-Ages Version”).
Also, people should buy No Thank You! Cause it’s good. And it’s summer, which is a fitting time for it.
…And Tay’s commentary this week was pretty great. Gifs make everything better, it’s official.
When did Tay become a basic white girl?
Bara release? Fuck yeah! I’ve been going back and forth between meltdowns over school continuing on the 15th and being a hangry, oversensitive bitch from my diet. Will I be able to fit into my scrubs in a week? This piece of pizza I’m stress eating says maybe!
I feel you, there. My residents are always joking about stress eating and scrubs (“Shhhhhhh, Tay. Here’s some chocolate. The world melts away when you’re eating chocolate.”), but I’m totally in the same boat. I had to buy new scrubs between my latest rotations : S.
That said! You’ve still got a week of freedom, and you’re going to do great in the Fall. You got this!
Aww, thanks Tay. If nothing else, I can come here and bitch about Clinical Pathology and all the parasites I have to memorize with their life cycles and the parasites within the parasites, and basically everything ever known about them…
Totally. Genetics is for me what parasites are for you ; P. Good lord, glycogen storage disorders are going to be the death of me.
Have you tried SketchyMicro? It was the reason I survived all of micro. I’ve actually got pretty solid flashcards for parasites (and viruses, and bacteria, and fungi) if you want them. Pathoma was also how I survived systems pathology (though I tried and did like Goljan).
tl;dr: If you ever want to compare study products, holler!
Awesome! My classmates made a bunch of Quizlet notes, but I’ll definitely look into SketchyMicro. And yes, please! Any notes you have would be fantastic! I’m a slower learner when it comes to memorizing things, so being bombarded with information and expecting to know it all within a week just makes me cry and sabotage my diet.
Hunks Workshop? Is this a joke!?
I’m downloading it asap.
So what’s actually going on with Mahou tsukai no yoru and Commie subs? It’s been “Fully translated, undergoing editing.” for at least half a year now…
We’ve been meaning to get to the bottom of that for a while now. For all three mahoyo projects, actually.
What we do know is that Loe plans to move on to his Mahoyo project very soon.
what happen to linazuke no imouto sama?
There is already a patch for it, according to vndb.org
it is .91 patch and some of the lines arent translated
As far as I know, nothing happened. The guy behind it just dropped off the face of the earth. That happened for a year or so before as well, then he suddenly released the current patch. So maybe he’ll suddenly reappear again one day and release the final patch?
Wait, so Tay wont post half naked pictures for us? Why do i even come to this site then? Sometime i feel fuwanovel doesn’t cater to the greater needs of its people
I suppose this was probably better than the commentary I DM’d Tay with on Twitter yesterday, but for some reason I’m still salty… oh well, still on a month-long vacation abroad, probably winning ~
Why amagami progress still links to feb update, not may one (https://nishishitranslations.wordpress.com/2016/05/08/may-update/ )?
