Fan translation recruitment bulletin (24/09/2014)

These posts will run biweekly (well, I’ll consider weekly at some point if my laziness permits…), and will list the needs of fan translation projects who are recruiting more members. Only projects with a thread posted on the Fuwanovel forums will be listed. Oh, and I changed the image positions around. Frankly bottom of each entry was just weird.

If you are a project leader and want to be listed in the next one, or want to correct information in your current entry, do message me on the forums.

We’ve got three new projects looking for members this time; the first one’s mostly looking for a hacker and involves one of the translators on the Gao Gao AIR project. Called Sanarara R, this NekoNeko Soft (who also created Lamune, by the way) VN was partly written by the writer of Narcissu, Tomo Katoka.

The second is an otomege project, a PSP VN called Amnesia. The protagonist has amnesia.

Third one is a project for a PC and PS3 VN called SoniComi (featuring Super Sonico, that girl with headphones seemingly permanently attached to her head and prominent chesticles).

Sanarara R

Looking for a hacker.

“Its insert song captures the mood of this game perfectly.” — translator

Bit of an interesting initiative, one of the translators from the Gao Gao AIR project (which is apparently held up solely by technical issues) has decided to tackle a VN by NekoNeko Soft. Looks like he’ll be the sole member on the team besides the hacker he’s looking for, for now. Description by cowteats, the translator himself:

Sanarara R is a heartwarming nakige released in 2012 by NekoNeko Soft. It consists of seven short stories, each focusing on different characters.

Kataoka Tomo, the author of Narcissu, is the overall planner as well as writer for two of the stories. One of the stories is also written by the author of Yumiko Sakaki route in Grisaia no Kajitsu. Fans of Puella Magi Madoka Magica may recognize the character design, which was done by Ume Aoki who is also the manga artist for Hidamari Sketch.

The stories in Sanarara all revolve around one central plot point: a once in a lifetime wish system. In this system, everyone in the world at some point in their lives will be granted a single wish.  To help grant their wish and explain the rules of the system to them, they are appointed a “navigator.”

After the person chooses their wish and has it granted, he will then become the navigator for the next person who will be granted a wish (who will then become the navigator for the next person and so on, making it a never ending cycle). After a person fulfills his role as a navigator, he will forget both his time with his previous navigator, as well as his time as a navigator.

The translator is looking for a hacker to help with script/image extraction and reinsertion. The novel appears to be using the Majiro engine. You can contact him at the project’s Fuwanovel thread or potentially on the Gao Gao Translations blog.

Amnesia

PSP project. Looking for a data entry(?) guy of some kind, an editor, and an ASM hacker.

Amnesia is a 15+ otomege for the PSP. It was created by developer Otomate (who also made Hakuoki), though I have no idea if the two VNs have the same writers. Interestingly, has the Unique Routes and Early Branching Plot tags on vndb (kinda F/SN style?).  Description courtesy of the My NeoRomance forums:

It starts on August 1.
The heroine wakes up in the morning to find her memories from before that day ALL gone…
How she lived her life, what kind of relationships she had with people, all blank like a white paper.

Calling himself a ghost, a boy named Orion appears in front of you. You start on your quest to get your memories back with an everyday life with Orion’s help, but one day, you get a phone call from someone you don’t know. You meet with ‘him’ whom you have no memories of. A love story starts with you with no memories and ‘him’.

The current team consists of 7 translators,  two proofreaders, and one image editor. They have fully translated the prologue and one route, with some progress on two other routes.

They are looking for a script editor, described as: “[…] someone who can write-back all the translations; changing all Japanese text into English. It’s trivial, but it’s takes some effort (because you can make a mis-spelling or mis-match the conversation structure).”, an ASM hacker (fixing font problems, text reinsertion…), and an editor.

They have a thread at the gbatemp forums, and a Fuwanovel thread.

SoniComi /  Motto! SoniComi

Looking for translators, an image editor, and beta testers (must have a hacked/jailbroken PS3).

VN with gameplay featuring permanently-screwed-on-headphones-chan Super Sonico as seen on TV. Has a PC all-ages version and a 17+ PS3 one. Description, part of a t-ono.net text:

SoniComi is based on Sonico, an overly busty amateur idol and mascot of Nitroplus, and features players as her cameraman. Naturally as a cameraman, you will both film and court her.The adventure phase deals mainly with your job as a cameraman, giving you the task of planning her photo shoots to the client’s requests. Gravure fans will be happy to know that they actually get to take pictures as Sonico poses around the set.

The team has currently translated and edited 211 (1.16%) of 18196 lines. They are planning to translate both the PC and PS3 versions of SoniComi. They have two translators (working at a slow pace), one editor, two hackers, two beta testers and apparently two image editors… their staff page might be a tiny bit out of date.

The team is looking for a translator (who doesn’t need very high Japanese skills), an image editor, and beta testers with jailbroken/hacked PS3s (since they are planning to translate both the PS3 and the PC version). You can contact them by leaving a comment on their website, sending a mail to [email protected], PMing the project leader, or posting in their Fuwanovel thread. You may be able to contact them via fax.

Lovely x Cation

Looking for one translation checker, one editor and one quality checker.

Lovely x Cation is a visual novel/dating simulator hybrid.

You play as a (nameable) protagonist that spends his days in his apartment all alone. One day his uncle, the owner of this apartment decides that the protagonist has to actually go outside and find love.

He does not have a general interest in anyone else, and he’s not really experienced in the field of socializing with girls. It’s time to change that. Enough with confining himself in the apartment doing nothing – it’s time to go girl hunting, and his hunting grounds shall be his school.

The team currently consists of seven people: two translators, one editor, one translation checker, one quality checker and two project leads; one of the project leads has knowledge about the Japanese language if assistance is needed.

They also have have one image editor and one hacker ready for action; their image editor is the near-omnipresent, rather skilled JeMhUnTeR.

They have translated, checked and edited 505/26959 (~1.87%) lines; their pace is picking up after a slow start. The interface is almost fully translated with over 100 items and item descriptions, locations, stats and activities.

The team is currently looking for one editor, one translation checker, and one quality checker.
They are all quite active and looking for people that keep an open line of communication, people that will be active and socialize with the other members to form a more fluid team.

There are tests made for all the roles and you are required to do these before any decisions are made; the amount of lines you manage to deliver in a day or two do not matter as long as you deliver something. Your abilities in Japanese & English must be above the level to pass their tests; nothing else is needed in that regard.

If you are interested, check out their Fuwanovel thread over here, or apply over at http://elevatortl.com/apply-open/.

Sukisho! First Limit

Looking for JP->EN Translators and possibly a Betareader.

A BL visual novel.

One day, Sora mysteriously falls from the window of an upper floor in the school building. After being released from the hospital and returning to the school dormitory, his friend Matsuri announces that he has a new roommate, a very effeminate boy named Sunao who was their friend from childhood.

The game series that inspired the Boys’ Love Anime, Sukisho is an exciting story involving many twists and turns that always leaves you wondering what’s next.

Current Project Status:  ~83.59% complete.  Hacker, Editors, and one Translator position filled.  Team has not changed for well over a year.

Recruiting:  Japanese -> English Translators.  Ideally, translators will have a solid grasp of both languages.  They are seeking translators who will provide more consistent work.  While they don’t have line count requirements, etc., the teams does expect that with an additional translator they will be able to update their progress sheet much more often.

They are also seeking translators for the Audio Dramas, which they have recently picked up. Translators for the Audio Dramas should be able to comprehend spoken Japanese and provide a line-by-line translation.

Apart from that, they are looking for TLCs for both the VN series, as well as the audio dramas. The same rules as for translators apply.

Contact Information:  anybody interested in the project can drop Ryechu an e-mail at [email protected], or via the contact form on the team’s website.

Koi ga Saku Koro Sakura Doki

Looking for one translator.

A romance VN by Palette released this year; nice art. Story outline:

Yuma is a second-year student at Mihaya Academy who listens to love problems from girls at the school and gives them thoughtful advice. This has made him quite popular and loved, resulting in a 21,000 yen (taxes included) ‘love bounty’ placed on him. The girls came to him with problems ranging from jealousy to infidelity. Having heard about so many troubles related to love, Yuma lost any desire he had for it.

One day, a mysterious girl appeared before him. She had never been in love, but she believed it was a wonderful thing. She asked him if he would like to be in love, and said that as a love fairy, she will help his love come true.

The project is currently at 11179/49257 (23%) lines translated and 2858 (6%) lines edited. It is currently staffed by one translator, one editor, two image editors and two hackers.

They are looking for one translator, who should have:

  • High Japanese proficiency
  • Decent English proficiency
  • Motivation (it’s a good idea to start by reading the game to completion)
  • Experience as a translator and/or VNs in general
  • Decent TL Speed
Translators will have to pass a test.

You can contact the project leader at [email protected]. The forum thread is here.

Magical Marriage Lunatics!

Looking for more translators, potentially TLC.

Let’s just go straight to the project leader’s description:

Yuuta is a typical guy living a typical life with a not so typical back story. What’s that back story? Ah, now that’s incentive you see. Come help us out and we will gladly tell you, but otherwise, you will have to wait until this gets translated, or you learn Japanese. Otherwise, back to the description…

Yuuta basically wakes up one day with a giant mansion in his backyard, and some girl saying that she is his fiance. Next up, his childhood friend confesses for some reason I will never understand, and then a bunch of other people do as well.

Does it sound like a typical Moe game? Well it is to some extent, but there is in fact a story which is heavily focused on that back story I mentioned.

The team has translated; they are now about halfway through the common route; that’s ~12.4% of total lines. They are decently staffed except for translators, which they only have one of. Translation checkers are also welcome, as long as they know their stuff. As for translator requirements:

“We honestly just need you to translate something. If you can translate at least a file per week that would be awesome, but if there is a special situation, don’t hesitate to tell me. Also, we don’t want machine translators. You don’t have to be super good at translating Japanese to English, so as long as you aren’t as terrible as a machine, we will take you with open arms!”

The Fuwanovel thread is here, and you can contact the project lead at [email protected].

Akai Ito

Looking for one or more translators.

Akai Ito is an all-ages yuri VN from the same series as the already translated Aoishiro. Mixing Japanese mythology with a contemporary setting, it’s also got quite a lot of action.

After her mother passes away, Kei Hatou heads for her father’s house in Hemizuka to arrange for her mother’s inheritance.  In the train on the way there, Kei has a mysterious dream of a huge tree and a woman who seems to be lost in sadness.

In the land of Hemizuka, Kei learns the secret concealed in her own blood through various meetings with an Oni Slayer, a friend of her late mother, a young girl accompanied by a white fox, and even the mysterious girl from her dreams.

The translation is currently at 21.5%, of which 18.5% is from an earlier translation project. The project has one translator, one hacker, two editors, and a leader (Okami). The translator is also working on two other projects, which is why the translation hasn’t progressed much.

The team is looking for one or more translators. The VN uses medium-level Japanese and is of medium length.

If you wish to join the team, contact Okami at [email protected], post in this thread on the Fuwanovel forums or send him a PM through his Fuwanovel profile.

Witch’s Garden

Looking for translators, TLC.

VN by Windmill Oasis. Its main claim to fame is the  E-Mote system.

Yousuke came to the bustling tourist city of Kazashiro to attend the school there. The Western-style houses lining the streets and the townspeople’s attire give the city an exotic charm. To top it off, a ‘witch’ named Ayari will be living with him at the boarding house Oasis, which is owned by his aunt Yuuko.

Later, he meets two other ‘witches’ Suzuno and Misumi, and reunites with his older sister-like childhood friend Ririko, who is a ‘knight’. Every day is full of exciting events and before long, they are brought again into a different world. Surely this is the world of love.

The VN is currently at 10163/64363 (15.79%) lines translated,  1634/64363 (2.54%) lines TLC’d, and… 63 lines edited.

The team is looking for translators and (especially) translation checkers, and you can contact them through IRC at #Despair_TL on Rizon or on their blog.

Koisuru Natsu no Last Resort

Looking for more editors, translators and translation checkers, but mostly needs TLC.

If you’re wondering where the Cocoro@Function’s Mina route translator went, this is the answer: another Pulltop VN.

Soutarou only just manages to pay his school fees by doing part-time jobs. After helping his kouhai Umi and skipping his shift, he was fired from his part-time job and was having problems making ends meet. Umi felt responsible for his present situation and introduced him to a part-time job at a Southern resort.

With deep blue skies, clear seas and vibrant vegetation, the place looked exactly like in the travel magazines. Moreover, he was surrounded by many girls: energetic imouto-like Sango, affectionate tennen ojousama Riho, shy and earnest Shiori, and the kind but also strict manager Nagisa. Arriving at the resort, Umi turned to him and asked him to spend the time there as her boyfriend.

Consistent updates of the project status can be found at twitter (https://twitter.com/Mdzanime) and via Google Drive.  The project is currently at 20816/36325 (57.30%) lines translated. All images are translated. The project currently has one translator, two editors and a bunch of quality checkers. It needs a translation checker significantly more than anything else.

You will need to pass a test for each role; the head translator is especially picky when it comes to his editing requirements. Editors should be able to word things better and more fluidly than the translator, rather than fix his grammar. Translators should be reliable, though they are not required to keep the same pace as the head translator.

You can find more details, and apply, at MDZ’s site.

Hoshizora no Memoria -Eternal Heart-

Needs a translator and potentially a hacker (for reinsertion).

Eternal Heart is Hoshizora no Memoria‘s fan disc. Unlike some fandiscs which are mostly there to provide sexual content, it has two story-focused routes; one for Mare and one for the girl from the lookout.

Yes, finally a decent Mare route, though I’ve heard it’s actually more about *is shot by Steve*. It’s also got more h-focused sideroutes for the other heroines.

Sideroutes are close to ready, Mare’s route is currently getting a final edit/TLC pass. From what I can tell it’s mostly one translator that’s active, and he might not translate secret girl’s route afterward. A partial patch with any finished sideroutes and Mare’s route will be released after the Mare route TLC is complete. The team has one editor.

The team needs a hacker who can help with script reinsertion, and a translator for ***’s route. You should probably know what I mean by *** if you want to join the team. Liking lolis is a plus. Contact Steve for more information.

Steins;Gate Hiyoku Renri no Darling

Recruiting translators.

Steins;Gate – Darling of Loving Vows (STEINS;GATE 比翼恋理のだーりん Steins;Gate: Hiyoku Renri no Darling?) is a romantic comedy, spin-off visual novel occurring in the Delta Attractor Field.

After repeated D-mail experiments, Okarin jumps to a world where 3% shift in world line was to be expected. And before he knew it, Kurisu as well as the rest of the members have been gathered and amidst preparations for a banquet.

In this world, a new gadget had been created but the group is facing some troubles. They can’t afford to pay the electricity bill due to running too many experiments. Let’s see what this new gadget can do for us…
The concept for this game is a love comedy with some sweet romance scenes and where 99% of the world is science but 1% is composed of … fantasies?!

This is a youtube-based project. The common, Rukako, Moeka, Suzuha, Faris and Kurisu routes have been translated, and Mayuri’s is currently in progress. Zakobot is the sole member on the project.

The project is looking for Japanese to English translators with an intermediate or higher ability. They must maintain a minimum pace of 400 lines/day. You can apply by messaging Zakobot or by posting in the project’s forum thread.

Pretty much all the descriptions are (sometimes edited) from Hau~ Omochikaeri!;  Aki Ito’s was a moderately heavily edited (with potential meaning drift…) Wikipedia thing. Other stuff might be credited in-article…

I feel like your comment could go towards the guy who did the translation for Dracu-Riot too.
